Filter cleanout schedules vary from weekly to monthly and take 15 minutes or less.
Falling debris and algae are the biggest challenges and should be considered when selecting your site. Sites under deciduous and especially flowering trees will require more frequent clean out. A shady location will minimize algae growth and evaporation. Algae can be controlled using a variety of filters, additives, uv lights or a combination thereof. Falling debris is channeled to a filter at the bottom for clean-out.
Somewhere you can easily access it. Think about where you would like to wake up with coffee or relax with a glass of wine, meditate, converse, or wait for your favorite bird. The sounds are continuous so think about placement where you will hear it and see it. Consider where you spend the most time and consider sight lines from the bedroom, office windows, etc.
Anywhere from 20 square feet to 100 square feet. Installations are shallow, usually less than 2 inches, and can be customized to fit your space through design.
About a gallon a day or less, depending upon the size, location, and weather to offset water loss caused by bird splash, pet and wildlife drinking and evaporation. Plants and mosses surrounding your feature will absorb and utilize any water that does splash out. A shady location helps minimize evaporation.
